We also provide permanent housing for LGBTQ and HIV+ individuals and work with them to achieve economic stability, social self-reliance, and better health. Hepatitis C (Commonly called Hep C or HCV) HCV is an infection that passes from person-to-person through contact with HCV positive blood. You should get tested for Hep C if you: Are a current or former drug user who used needles or shared needles to inject, even if you only did this one time or did it many years ago. Have a sex partner who has chronic Hepatitis C or have had many sex partners. Rapid HCV testing produces results within 20 minutes. Similar to a rapid HIV test, a single drop of blood is required. A positive result must be confirmed by additional laboratory tests.

Rapid HIV tests provide results in 20 minutes. Each test requires a drop of blood collected from a small finger prick. When a test is positive, we perform an additional rapid test to confirm the result. All individuals receive counseling before and after the test to ensure they understand the meaning of the results and so they can discuss any risk factors, concerns, and medical care options.

Research shows that the biggest protective factor for LGBTQ+ people is SOCIAL SUPPORT.  Support from family, friends, coworkers, classmates, supervisors, teachers, and neighbors are all crucial to LGBTQ+ wellbeing.  In addition to the support listed above, building relationships with other LGBTQ+ people has also shown to increase resilience and reduce feelings of social isolation and invisibility. On this page, you will find a list of our social support groups that are currently meeting virtually and in-person.  If you are interested in joining a particular group, please email the contact listed.  This person can answer any questions you may have about the group and will provide you with the Zoom link, if applicable.   If you have any general questions about our social support group offerings or are having trouble reaching the contact listed, please email community@lgbtlifecenter.org or call us at 757-640-0929. Note: We are currently in the process of relaunching some previous groups that went dormant after COVID, as well as some new offerings!  This page and our Event Calendar will be updated with those as they go live.
