Description

If you need immediate safety, ACTS safe house is available anytime day or night. Located in a residential neighborhood, its location is confidential and provides comfortable shelter and support for you and your children. There is even a back yard to relax and play in. You are welcome to stay for up to one month at no cost. While with us, you will have access to a case manager who will help you plan your next steps, including helping you find a new place to live. Case management is also available for your children, as we know they too have been affected. Many services are available to you while you are with us, including assistance with finding a job and a new place to live. Your children will still attend school and you are able to continue working if you already have a job. Take advantage of as many or as few of the services we offer.

Required Documents

Heads of household must present some form of ID. We will ask for additional information; however, it is not required. The extra information will enable us to determine if a household qualifies for additional food through the USDA program.

Eligibility

Clients are eligible to obtain food assistance through the ACTS Hunger Prevention Center once per month.

Intake Procedure

Clients obtain food on a walk-in basis during operating hours. No appointment necessary.

Description

For utility assistance, you may make an appointment once every 4 months for any utility other than Dominion. For Dominion, you may make an appointment once during June 1st-September 30th and once during October 1st-May 31st each year. In addition to assistance with utilities, ACTS offers rental, mortgage assistance, when funding is available and Thrift Store vouchers, depending on the circumstance. ACTS does not cover Internet phone, gasoline or any other financial assistance for material goods. EA Services are offered in English and Spanish.

Eligibility

ACTS provides financial assistance to local households who have received a utility disconnection notice only. After the first instance of emergency utility assistance and every time thereafter, households will be required to pay a percentage toward their utility bill.
