Description:
The Charlottesville Free Clinic provides free primary medical care, prescription medications and dental services for about 3,000 low-income uninsured adults in the greater Charlottesville/Albemarle community each year. Additionally, through the CFC's Physician Partner Network, its network of specialty medical providers and the Community Dental Program, about 1,000 patients receive free or reduced-cost care in private medical/dental offices annually. Martha Jefferson Hospital and the UVA Health System provide free laboratory services for CFC patients and free and reduced-cost radiology services are provided by CRL Surgical & Radiology Associates. Patients are seen by appointment only Monday through Thursday and Monday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings.
More than 500 community members, including over 150 physicians, nurse practitioners, pharmacists and dentists, volunteer at the CFC annually. In fulfillment of its mission to provide practical experience for current and future health care professionals, the CFC provides volunteer opportunities for undergraduate students at the University of Virginia, students and faculty at the UVA Schools of Medicine and Nursing as well as medical, dental and pharmacy residents and attendings working at the UVA Health System. Additionally, students from the MCV/VCU School of Dentistry volunteer regularly with the CFC Dental Clinic.
